memories of Thom |
I served with Thom Maholic from the time
he entered the 7th Special Forces Group(Airborne), the Special
Warfare Center and School and I was also at Firebase Ghecko on
another operational detachment. Thom is most definitely amongst
the best men I have ever known, not only as a friend, but also
as a soldier. He would always place the needs of others well
before his own. When he didnt have the answers to a problem
he would seek out somebody that did. He would do everything possible
to make sure people understood the task that they were sent to
do. His sense of humor even in the most adverse of situations
could always lighten the mood and made living at Ghecko a lot
more enjoyable. Since Thoms death Operation Medusa went
into Pashmul were Thom was killed and an estimated 300-500 Taliban
were killed. No number of enemy deaths will ever replace the
loss of such an honorable man that was so dedicated to his family
as well as his country. It was an honor to have known him and
I am proud to have had the priviledge to have served with him
throughout his Special Forces career. He will be sorely missed
by a countless number of people within the Special Operations
community. Posted 10.29.2006 View News Item View Obituary |
